Carrying out fibreglass and gelcoat repairs on a boat typically involves several steps:
1. Assessment: We will Identify the extent of the damage. This could include cracks, chips, scratches, or even holes.
2. Preparation: We clean the damaged area thoroughly to remove any dirt, grime, or loose particles. Sand the damaged area to create a smooth surface for the repair materials to adhere to.
3. Repairing Fibreglass: Apply fibreglass resin to fill in cracks, holes, or gaps. We use in fibreglass cloth or matting for all our repairs.
4. Gelcoat Repair: I Once the fibreglass repair has cured, a gelcoat is applied over the repaired area to restore the surface finish. Gelcoat can be applied using a brush or spray gun, depending on the size of the repair.
5. Sanding and Finishing: After the gelcoat has cured, we will the sand the repaired area to blend it seamlessly with the surrounding surface. This is achieved by using a coarse grit sandpaper and gradually moving to finer grits for a smooth finish.
6. Polishing: Once the repair area is smooth and blended, we will polish the gelcoat to restore its shine and lustre.
7. Sealing and Protecting: Finally, a marine-grade sealant or wax is applied to protect the repaired area and prevent future damage.
